Training

Line Drive Retrievers has various training programs to fit you needs. Below are brief descriptions of our programs. For additional information, or to simply "talk dogs", please call us anytime.

Obedience

Does your pet ignore you when being called? Does he/she have a bad habit or behavior? Does "Sit" or "Come" only work sometimes? If you answered YES to any of these questions, Basic Obedience is right for you. Basic obedience is available for all breeds and is the foundation to a great gun dog.

In our basic obedience programyour pet will learn to obey these commands consistently:

  • Sit
  • Heel
  • Here
  • Down
  • No

Gun Dog Academy

In a few months, your puppy will become a well-mannered hunting companion. We start with a solid obedience program to ensure reliable results in the field. Your dog's training program will be tailored to your hunting preference i.e.- dove only, dove and duck, dove and quail, etc.

  • General Obedience
  • Force Fetch- Fetch, Hold, Drop
  • Collar Conditioning
  • Upland (Quail or Pheasant) hunting
  • Duck Blind Hunting

Advanced Hunting, Hunt Test, & Field Trial Training

Dogs that develop soundly through basics have the opportunity of becoming an advanced handling retriever. A handling retrievers is one who takes commands through hand, voice, and whistle signals to find a bird in which he/she has not seen fall. Nothing tops the day more than a fully-trained retriever who finds a bird hundreds of yards away with the help of his owner/handler.

The pinnacle of this ability is presenting the dog under judgement in a hunt test or field trial.

Field Trials

Field trials require a fully-trained retriever to compete against other retrievers. Winners are determined and placements are given. Field trials are a showcase of highly talented and stylish retrievers. For more information on how your retriever can be trained to run AKC field trials, please call us @ 956.739.2142.
